Knights Finish 10th in the Nation
The UCF Ice Hockey team traveled to Ft. Myers on March 1st for
its first ever National Tournament appearance. They came into
the tournament a huge underdog, being seeded 14 out of 16 teams.
The Knights opend up the tournament against #3 Penn State Berks.
UCF jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but saw that lead disappear
in the 2nd period. The Knights rallied from 2 goals down in the
last 5 minutes of the game to send it to overtime. Neither team
was able to score in OT, forcing a shootout. The first 5 shooters
were still not enough to crack the tie. In the 7th round of the
shootout the Knights saw their National Championship hopes come
to an end. The Knights played a great game and made a statment
to the rest of the country that they were for real. The Knights
bounced back the next morning with a 2-0 win against former National
Champ and 6th ranked Wyoming. The next day the Knights crushed
15th ranked College of the Canyons 12-1. On the last and final
day of the tournament, the Knights faced off against the defending
National Champions and #1 seed Colorado. The Knights played tough
for the first 2 and 1/2 periods, but we unable to hang with Colorado.
The Knights had their best season and look forward to next season.
This is the official home of the Ice Hockey team at UCF (University
